Our Team

Dan Borchers, CPF

Owner, Certified Picture Framer

Dan’s introduction to custom framing began as an apprentice under his father, from whom he inherited a love of design and natural skill as a craftsman. Dan earned his BS in Management Information Systems (MIS) at Central Michigan University and CPF certification before returning to the family business. He took over as owner in 1994.

Dan attends trade shows and seminars across the country, and has traveled to Italy to train under a master of art and frame restoration. He especially enjoys the personal relationships with FMS customers and the stories behind the projects they bring to the shop. In his spare time, Dan enjoys traveling, gardening, and walking the Grand Haven beach with his wife, Mary.

Stephanie Smith, CPF

Certified Picture Framer

Stephanie Smith has been a valuable member of the Frame and Mat Shop team for over 30 years. She studied at Grand Valley State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art. She would later earn her CPF certification while working at the Frame and Mat Shop. Stephanie has extensive practice with framing projects of all kinds. In addition, she is considered to be one of the team’s master seamstresses for her talent and experience working with textile framing projects.

In her free time, Stephanie enjoys camping, reading, biking and travel.

Adam Dahlstrom, CPF

Certified Picture Framer

Adam has over 20 years of custom framing experience with the Frame and Mat Shop. He is valued by the team for his artistic abilities and exceptional craftsmanship. Adam graduated from Grand Valley State University with a BFA in printmaking, also having studied at Columbia College (Chicago) and Kingston University (Kingston-Upon-Thames, England).

In addition to his work as a picture framer, he’s an accomplished artist. His latest works include public murals in Grand Haven and Holland, and he’s participated in numerous solo and group shows around West Michigan. We encourage you to check out Adam’s portfolio here. Beyond the shop, Adam enjoys spending time with his family, working on their home remodel, and continuing to create.

Karyn Klukos

Custom Picture Framer

Karyn has been with the Frame and Mat Shop since 2013. She received her AFA degree from Dordt College in 2007, studied Roman Art and Architecture in Italy, and ultimately earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from University College Roosevelt in Middelburg, Netherlands in 2010. She contributes her knowledge of industry trends to the Frame and Mat Shop team.

Karyn is also a passionate artist, finishing as a 2016 finalist for the Holland Tulip Time poster competition with one of her oil paintings. She enjoys traveling, and has visited more than a dozen different countries, which she finds to be both a source of inspiration for her art, and a way she explores ever-changing design trends. Karyn also loves spending time with her family.

OiLin Jaeger

Custom Picture Framer

OiLin joined the Frame and Mat Shop in 2014. She loves art, and studied it passionately in high school and college. OiLin also earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Western Michigan University. OiLin’s intuition in bringing together complementary design elements makes her both a valuable team member and a talented photographer.

Her passion for travel and nature photography has led her around the world: she has shot everything from lions in Africa to polar bears in Canada, and recently put on a solo show titled, “Inside a Chinese Village”.

Candy Lynch

Custom Picture Framer

Candy joined the Frame and Mat Shop in 2016, before which she accumulated almost 30 years of experience in the industry. Her enthusiasm for custom framing is rooted in her passion for design and her expertise as a seamstress. She holds several framing certifications, and a degree in Business Administration, and furthers her education and industry awareness through framing seminars and fabric & design courses.

Candy personally enjoys sewing, quilting, and volunteering at the NICU Help Hands organization, where she makes Angel Gowns. She also loves travelling the US, and spending time with her children and 6 grandchildren.
