Our story
In 1970, Fred and Patricia Borchers opened the first Frame and Mat Shop in Grand Haven, Michigan.
The business was inspired by Fred’s education in a Chicago art college, keen eye for design, and two decades of wood finishing for Story & Clark Piano in Grand Haven. Pat contributed a complementary skill set as a businesswoman, curator and manager. With the support of a committed team, the business grew, expanding to a second location in Holland. All five Borchers children apprenticed at the shop, with a few later opening galleries of their own throughout West Michigan.
Since 1994, Dan Borchers has carried on the family craft in Grand Haven and Holland alongside an experienced team.
In addition to custom framing, the Frame and Mat Shop today offers other specialized services as well as gallery events. The shop supports the needs of unique personal projects, museum exhibitions, high-volume commercial solutions, and everything in between. We take pride in doing so with superb craftsmanship, a wide selection of conservation-grade materials, and the same commitment to excellence in customer service that Pat and Fred taught us.
