Mounting
Providing support and stability to your art
The process of securing artwork (such as prints, photos, or posters) onto a solid backing, providing support, protection, and stability. It can make artwork display-ready, or serve as a step in the framing process. There are various methods, both reversible and irreversible, depending on the type of artwork, the desired presentation, and the level of conservation needed.
-
Artwork (typically photos, posters, water-sensitive art) is affixed to mount board by a heat press. This method is not reversible.
-
Artwork (most types of 2D art) is affixed to specialized foam core with a heat press. Due to the unique properties of the adhesive, this method is reversible.
-
Artwork (typically higher-value works, paintings, or 3D objects displayed for longer periods of time) is mounted to 100% acid-free mount board using hinges, acid free tape, or special adhesive. By design, this method prevents acid contact. This method is reversible.
-
Artwork (typically thicker, heavier types) is treated with liquid adhesive, then positioned on mount board for a cold press. Requires thorough drying. This method is not reversible.
